Our featured artist of the month is Gülay Alpay (@gulayalpayart)!

Her artistic practice explores painting and interdisciplinary forms through a playful, spirited, and freeform visual language that often carries hidden layers of meaning. Her works have been exhibited internationally, and she continues to develop her artistic practice in Toronto.

In celebration and promotion of Toronto’s local artists, Hotel Victoria is proud to announce the next Artist in our Artist in Residence Series.

After finishing her first year in the Indigenous Visual Culture program, Gülay (@gulayalpay) reflects on the powerful experiences that shaped her journey – from having her work featured in the RBC Partial Gallery to participating in a community-driven art project, "We Are In One Body". With support from her professors and peers, she's found inspiration, connection and purpose in her creative path.

Roots and Wings, Turkish Canadian Contemporary Artist Collective

 A creative burst of colour and energy has arrived at 1315 North Service Road, Oakville, thanks to the vibrant new exhibition now on view at Fengate Asset Management.
Nestled in the heart of Oakville’s business corridor, this dynamic space is currently showcasing the imaginative and freeform works of Gulay Alpay, a Turkish-Canadian artist whose art pulses with movement, texture, and the rhythms of nature. 

 

Women's Day, Our Successful Woman Gülay Alpay

Turkish artist Gülay Alpay will create worlds within worlds at an artist fair in Miami. The artist will make use of every inch of the 10 x 6 x 10 foot space that delineates artists’ booths by making this measurement also the size of her work. 

Alpay has an extensive social and technological network with artists and non-artists alike and visitors can make submissions to her work within her recreated studio space.

“I hope he doesn’t drop it. Or maybe I should hope he does,” one woman quipped as she wandered past the naked man, part of an interactive work by Turkish artists Gulay Alpay and Emre Erturk that dared browsers to peer through a hole in the box.

The artist Gülay Alpay is pleased to present his personal exhibition "kiss your dream" in Venice at the Scoletta di San Giovanni Battista e del SS. Sacramento in Bragora.

The most important feature of Gülay Alpay's 'interactive' exhibition, which will be presented to the people of Ankara between August 10th and September 15th, is that it is an interactive exhibition, just like its name suggests. Along with art lovers from Ankara, the young students of Ankara Children's University will also be able to actively participate in the exhibition by painting the silk walls of these special illuminated rooms as they wish, together with Gülay Alpay. When Alpay's paintings are combined with Yılmaz Zenger's designs, they transform into a transparent, illuminated, sound-producing, and multi-dimensional art object, captivating visitors in the magnificent atmosphere of Cer Modern.

Abraham Lubelski on Gulay Alpay’s 3D Project Room Installation. Using fluorescent paint and fabric to explore color, luminosity, movement, and sculptural space, Turkish artist Gulay Alpay captures the energy of the life—from the people she meets to the places she travels. 

Gulay Alpay’s work displays delicacy and fragility, revealing a deep respect for something fundamental, some primal, indigenous sense of shape and color, yet she creates with bursts of contemporary idioms.

Bride Groom Fashion Day 2017, which took place with the participation of 51 fashion designers and 51 fashion houses, determined the wedding dress fashion.

​Whales have been the source of inspiration for Gulay Alpay?s works for over ten years. This December, Alpay will hold her New York debut exhibition at the Broadway Gallery, displaying what she describes as the transfer of the audio into visual.

The concept behind Gulay Alpay’s not so silk, Silk Room construction of wood, pink paint, condoms and plenty of brushes and paint palettes for the general public to take up for themselves was less so high art than high purpose. Alpay created this interactive structure with the goal of making a statement about the female and her body.

Alpay’s work furthers a legacy of perfomative work referencing such artists as Valie Export and Marina Abramovic. She updates this work by infusing it with contemporary post-modern theory. 

Alpay opens solo exhibition in Rome

As part of Maltepe Municipality's cultural and artistic events for the new year, Gülay Alpay's painting exhibition titled "Love Rainbow" opened at the Maltepe Municipality Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan Cultural Center.
